PARIS, FRANCE (CN) – In an effort to make the Tour de France even more entertaining to the average cycling fan and potentially increase viewership from non-industry partners, the race organization has announced it will be awarding a new jersey in this year’s 2011 event. The Transparent Jersey will be awarded to the highest placed rider after each stage that is not currently involved in a drug scandal. This is expected to be a very highly contested new category as governing bodies continue to crack down on suspected drug use and a larger percentage of the peloton deem the illegal activities abnormally risky. A ill-timed police raid or suspicious boarder crossing could mean losing the jersey and the chances of cheek kisses and overly size champagne bottles are stories of what could have been. We expect a sunscreen sponsor to take advantage of this new competition since the new jersey’s skin coverage is limited and allows for the disappearance of the ‘cycling tan’.

I was watching the Tour pre-show and they mention the Transparent Jersey. Did I miss something? Wait a minute…
