Interesting read. This exact same thing happened to me when I raced it in 2009. I had paced myself to break the 9 hour barrier for 100 miles of riding and instead it was 103.22 miles and my time was 9:19 minutes. Still an amazing experience, but I was under the 9 hour barrier for 100 miles and was gunning for that big belt buckle!

I made it to Cat 1 by listening to all the AC / DC songs. I always hammer to “Dog Eat Dog”, and ride hard in the breaks listening to “Heat Seeker”. If this guy continues to listed to all but the “Black Ice” CD, he will be Pro someday.

It will certainly give us more insight into the riders as people when we see which ones choose the option of going for the cheek kisses. Did they replace the podium girl with Edward from Twilight? We might see the podium girl forgetting whose cheek they’re targeting…it’ll be chaos!

Can’t attest to the validity of SPF 50+ sunscreens offering a competitive advantage but they should certainly think twice about applying the amount of chemical actives needed to boost the SPF to that level to their bodies. In addition, SPF 50 does NOT offer twice the protection of SPF 25, it offers less than 1% additional protection, hardly worth the concentrated chemicals or the cost.
